History of AAECC
The AAECC Symposium was born at Toulouse in June 1983 at University Paul Sabatier. During first AAECC all talks were on Coding and Combinatorics and the symposium proceeding was published in Discrete Mathematics in 1985. To date, there have been 16 AAECC symposiums which were held successively at the following places:

The aim of AAECC is to encourage cross-fertilization between different areas that develop algebraic methods and their applications. AAECC was the first Symposium to introduce Gröbner bases into the coding domain. There is a natural link between, for example, concatenated codes, 2-D Fire codes, Abelian codes, multivariate polynomials algebras, and Gröbner bases.More information on the AAECC conferences can be found at http://www.irit.fr/ACTIVITES/AAECC/conf.htm .
